Herb attended Bentley College of Accounting and Finance in
Waltham, Massachusetts. World War II interrupted his higher
education, and he spent three years flying B-24s over Europe.
After the war, he finished college and attended Northeastern
University for his B.B.A. Graduating in 1947. He worked as an
Accountant while earning his MBA in accounting and finance,
with a minor in insurance, from Boston University in 1950.
Entering the insurance
industry in 1949, Herb initially built his agency writing
general lines. He then spent time developing niche insurance
programs for professionals including optometrists, medical
testing labs and drug stores, etc.
In 1962, Herb
developed the Accountants Professional Liability Program,
also known as, the first of its kind in the Nation, for the
National Society of Public Accountants, that became the
basis for The CPA Advantage Accountants Professional
Liability Insurance program.
Herbert Landy was
named in Who’s Who in Executive and Professionals and
received the first national award given by the National
Society of Public Accountants in 1987. |

Betsy
A. Magnuson
President

Betsy Magnuson, Herb’s daughter, brings a second generation
of management to the firm. maintaining the Landy heritage of
honoring commitments, to customers and employees. Betsy is a
graduate of Syracuse University and joined the firm in 1985.
Betsy was appointed President in 2001. In addition to the
responsibilities of the Presidency, Betsy supervises the
underwriting process, is involved in product enhancement, IT
development, marketing and the daily operations of the office.
During these past 5
decades, we have responded to the many changes in the
professional liability insurance industry. These include the
"hard market" of the early 80's, the SEC crisis, Y2K
speculation, and the extended market fluctuations we
constantly face.
We pride ourselves on
our integrity, ethical service, and solid degree of
professionalism. This formula guarantees not only success
for our firm, but also for our distribution network,
insurance company business partners, and customers. We are
committed to maintaining these characteristics for the next

Bill Garofalo
Vice President of
Information Systems |
Bill joined the Landy Agency in 1989. He is in charge of our Information Systems and developed the current agency system, interface and management reporting functions. This custom built system is unique to the functioning of the Landy Agency and handles all data aspects related to underwriting, policy and renewal notices and issuance, record storage and accounting. |
